Calcium Supplements May Increase Cardiovascular Risks in Postmenopausal Women

Thirteen trials involving 29,000 women found consistent increases in cardiovascular risks, stroke, and heart attacks associated with taking calcium supplements, prompting researchers to look further at adding calcium to postmenopausal women’s diets. The studies indicate that high blood calcium levels are related to calcification of the arteries that leads to heart attacks and strokes. In these studies, the addition of Vitamin D was not significant.
